Original HID Projector Upgrade

Original HID Projector Upgrade

New upgrade with 4 HID projectors coming soon

I hated the standard headlights, where only one light is lit on dipped beam, it always looks one bulb is blown.  So I upgraded the headlights through a local shop to an HID projector upgrade.

High-intensity discharge lamps (HID lamps) are a type of electrical gas-discharge lamp which produces light by means of an electric arc between tungsten electrodes housed inside a translucent or transparent fused quartz or fused alumina arc tube. This tube is filled with both gas and metal salts. The gas facilitates the arc’s initial strike. Once the arc is started, it heats and evaporates the metal salts forming a plasma, which greatly increases the intensity of light produced by the arc and reduces its power consumption. High-intensity discharge lamps are a type of arc lamp.

These are bi-xenon projectors, this means that usually there is a metal flap cutting of part of the beam to prevent dazzling other road users, when the road is clear in front, switch the main beam on and the solenoid drops the flap and you get full output.

Do not use HID bulbs in a reflector,it is not a controlled light output which will dazzle without lighting up the road properly

Now both lights work together, both low beam and high beam. The light output is phenomenal.  Very white, very bright and very clear cutoffs to prevent dazzling other road users.

The original reflectors are coated in matt black and the largest HID projectors that will fit are epoxied into the reflectors – part of the back of the reflector is dremeled out as the projectors are longer.   This means that the original aiming adjusters still work.

HID bulbs last much longer than halogen bulbs, what damages them most is low voltage supply so its best to turn the HID lights off before starting the bike, I fitted a Lithium battery which reduces the voltage drop if I forget to turn them off

I also added Halos and angel eyes, the inside of the HID projector upgrade are blue with white halos.  The Halos are the brighter LEDs rather than CCD, with blue angel created by a strip of blue LED’s just behind the projector lens.

There are also LED strip lights, thin white translucent strip of plastic with 2 strips of LEDs – 1 white and 1 amber.

The strip lights and the Halos/Angel lights act as daylight running lights, using the HID projectors only when needed to light up the road at night.

The led strips and the fang lights now act as indicators too
